Plant: evergreen shrub to 10'

Origin: southern Japan

Zone
: 8 - tropics

Flowers
: ancient plant does not have "flowers". Male and female structures on separate plants. Mature females produced large colorful cones if fertilized.

Foliage: pinnately compound, leathery fronds with stiff, sharp blades

Culture
: full sun to part shade. Deep, well drained soil. Tough, tolerant plants. Mulch with compost or humus. Fertilize in spring to speed up growth.
