: Dioecious, inconspicuous, greenish clusters along nodes of branches

Foliage: simple, entire leaves. One of the first to turn color and drop. Small samaras appear in late summer.

Culture
: sun to part shade. Seedlings are shade tolerant. Well-drained, deep soil. Typically found on moist slopes or just above floodplains.
